Soda, Heroin, Cigarettes…The Awful S**t Humans Consume.

Short of cigarettes and heroin, it’s difficult to think of anything worse for your body than soda. Seriously. Soda is just pure evil when it comes to what we put into our bodies. But millions of people still continue to drink this crap, which defies logic.

And though I never tried heroin, I did smoke cigarettes for years and drank countless sodas over my life.

We live in a culture that encourages bad habits and harmful indulgences. Soda, like opioids and tobacco, have become so prevalent in our society, and so commonplace, that we don’t even bother to ask what it might be doing to our health.

Soda is loaded with so much harmful filth that it’s a wonder it’s not labeled as a potential poison by the FDA. And forget that marketing scam called “diet soda.” It’s a meaningless phrase concocted by the soda industry. Whether it’s “diet” or not, traditional sodas are filled with artificial sweeteners and impossible-to-pronounce chemicals that will kill most life forms on the planet if consumed in large enough quantities.

Two facts you might not know about soda:

1) Certain sodas are often used as pesticides in third world countries because they are so cheap and effective!

2) A 12-ounce can of regular Coke contains 39 grams of total sugar which is equal to 9 teaspoons of sugar!

So why do we continue to pour this filth into our stomachs? Why do we continue to drink what is in essence a cheap pesticide?

There’s no single answer, but a few reasons might be:

1) We bought into the the notion of living for today and forgetting about tomorrow

2) We have been conditioned to think we enjoy artificial flavors

3) Sodas are sold cheap so children can buy them

3) We have a tendency to continue habits, harmful or not, that we adopt as children

Soda absolutely wreaks havoc on your teeth, internal organs and waistline. Consuming soda is linked to obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, fatty liver, and even asthma.

And soda is addictive as hell. My wife had a 6-soda-per-day habit that she was unable to kick on her own until she met with a hypnotist who helped her quit. She’s been soda-free for several years now, thank God.

Fortunately, there is an increasing amount of soda alternatives to choose from these days, specifically flavored carbonated waters that have no artificial flavors or chemicals. Our favorite is La Croix Sparkling Water, which is delicious and refreshing and not destructive to your body.

So think twice the next time you have an urge to reach for a soda (or cigarette or Oxycontin). Consider what you put into your one and only body.  Would you rather find a healthy alternative or poison the only body you have?
